HEALTH AUTHORITIES AND PARTNERS HOLD HIGH-LEVEL MEETING WITH PRESIDENT BOAKAI ON EVD PREPAREDNESS ( May 20, 2026, Monrovia, Liberia)The Government of Liberia, through the National Public Health Institute and the Ministry of Health, has intensified national preparedness efforts amid the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. As part of these efforts, health authorities and partners on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, held a high-level meeting with President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., to provide an update on the country’s preparedness plan and ongoing interventions aimed at preventing the importation and spread of the disease in Liberia. The meeting brought together officials of the Government of Liberia, international health partners, and stakeholders involved in emergency preparedness and response. Discussions focused on strengthening surveillance systems, enhancing screening at points of entry, improving laboratory capacity, ensuring rapid response readiness, and intensifying community engagement and risk communication activities across the country. During the meeting, health authorities informed the President that Liberia remains on high alert and continues to monitor developments in the affected countries through coordinated surveillance and information-sharing mechanisms. Authorities also highlighted ongoing screening measures at airports, seaports, and land borders, as well as efforts to preposition essential medical supplies and protective equipment. The Interim Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, emphasized the importance of maintaining strong preparedness systems, noting that lessons learned from previous outbreaks, including the 2014–2016 Ebola epidemic, continue to guide Liberia’s response strategy. Partners at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Liberia’s preparedness initiatives through technical assistance, logistics support, training, and coordination to ensure the country remains ready to respond effectively to any potential public health threat. Speaking during the meeting, President Boakai commended health authorities and partners for their proactive efforts and urged continued vigilance and collaboration. He stressed the need for all institutions and communities to work together to protect the health and safety of the Liberian people. The Government of Liberia continues to encourage the public to remain calm, stay informed through official health channels, and cooperate with health authorities as preparedness activities continue nationwide.#nphilmedia #meeting #preparedness
